The Watertown Humane Society is planning to hold a bake sale and Cram the Van event to raise funds and bring in food and other supplies. It will be held at the Watertown ShopKo Store at 701 S. Church Street on Saturday, February 9th, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Many homemade cookies, pies, and other sweets will be available at both store entrances during these hours, or until the food runs out.
Cram the Van
The Humane Society van is recognizable by the paw prints painted all over it and it will be parked at the first entrance to the ShopKo Store during the times of the bake sale. Local supporters are asked to Cram the Van with items the Shelter always needs which include:
- non-scoopable cat litter (any brand) or plain litter
- Cat and Kitten Chow (Purina or Good Life brands are preferred)
- Kong toys
- Nylabones (considered to be more safe than rawhide and cooked or processed bones)
- Cat toys
- Paper towel
- Toilet paper
- Copy paper
Please! No donations of any pet treats made in China! Some of these treats are currently being investigated by the Food and Drug Administration and some have been voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer(s) due to being suspect in the illness of over 2,000 and deaths of over 500 dogs so far!
NBC News has reported that lawsuits have already been filed against some manufacturers and the companies who sell the products which include Nestle Purina, which makes Waggin’ Train and Canyon Ranch jerky treat products and the Del Monte Corp., which makes popular Milo’s Kitchen Home-style Dog Treats.
If you have pets you feed store bought treats to, we urge you to keep up with the developments on this and not to feed them to your own dogs. This problem may be more widespread than just involving the products named.
Can You Bake Some Goodies or Volunteer?
Bakers and volunteers are needed to help in this event. Individuals or groups may volunteer to bake sweets by calling the Shelter at (920) 261-1270 for more details.
Baked goods of any kind (cookies, brownies, cupcakes, pies, etc.) may be brought to the Watertown Senior Citizens Center at 514 S. First Street on Friday, February 8th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The items will be bagged and tagged there before being taken to ShopKo on Saturday for the Bake Sale.
Also needed are donations of small and large paper plates and “Ziploc” bags, and boxes for transport of baked items.
All proceeds go to benefit the animals at the shelter. We thank you for your time and generosity!
